Maanen Faces is a Nantes-based stoner/psych doom band formed in 2021. At the crossroads of psychedelia, stoner rock and doom metal, the quartet crafts a dense and dark universe, inspired as much by Electric Wizard, Sonic Youth and Kyuss as by modern acts such as Deftones, Idles or King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
With Emmanuel (bass, vocals), Clément (guitar), Julien (keyboards) and Thomas (drums), Maanen Faces explores, like Lunar Envoys stranded on Earth, the existential and social crises of our times. Mystical but godless, tragic but still alive, the band is one of the emerging names to watch on the French stoner psych scene.
After a first EP, Damned and Doomed (2024), centered on the inner struggle against one’s demons in an already doomed world, Maanen Faces released the album A Brilliant Future in 2025. Produced between Nantes and San Francisco, this record dives into a sonic dystopia where social revolts, technological alienation and the confrontation with death intertwine.
Remaining true to an independent mindset, the band charts its own path. With its festival Evil Town Party, Maanen Faces brings together an eclectic lineup ranging from psychedelic rock, stoner and doom to grunge, metal and jazz rock — with a clear will to gradually refocus the event on heavy psych and fuzz-driven sounds.
On stage, the quartet delivers a raw, hypnotic energy, turning each concert into an immersive experience. In 2024, Maanen Faces shared the stage at Supersonic (Paris) with Qilin (instrumental stoner) and Slowbot (heavy psych doom).

A Brilliant Future, released in 2025, is a sonic journey through a dystopian universe, where our music captures the turmoil of an ultra-connected world.
Across six tracks, this new album explores social revolt, transhumanist drift and enslavement by artificial intelligence, but also suffering at work, family breakdown and the escape from death. A dark atmosphere, a raw energy, and an uncompromising vision of a future where, for us, technological progress is nothing more than another name for oppression.
This album was recorded live and mixed at Studio Rimshot Nantes, by Justin Nicquevert (Birds Of Nazca). For the mastering, we chose to work with Justin Weis (Acid King, Amenra, Sun Crow). We created the entire artwork ourselves. The release includes both a CD version and a DIY cassette version.
In 2024, we released a first short EP entitled Damned And Doomed, blending doom and cinematic horror. Here, the band began its exploration of the struggle for survival.
With this EP, we closed a chapter of the band, while at the same time defining the universe and themes we wanted to explore.
The EP is entirely DIY, based on recordings from the 2022–2023 period of the band. We worked ourselves on the live takes in the studio, the mixing, mastering, and production. We also created the full artwork. It is available on all streaming platforms, and we released a CD version.
